The Thruster unit is made up of a cylinder filled with oil, a centrifugal pump at the bottom, and an electric motor mounted on the top cover of the cylinder. The motor’s rotor shaft extends vertically downwards into the cylinder, carrying an impeller at its bottom end.
When the motor turns the impeller, pressure builds up beneath the piston, which moves higher. When the power is turned off, the oil flows in reverse via the stationary impeller, and the weight of the piston mechanism lowers the piston to its original position. The Electro Hydraulic Thruster Bottle is completely enclosed, class ‘B’ insulated, and appropriate for a three-phase, alternating current, 50 c/s supply. There are two bearings: the top bearings of the motor are grease lubricated, while the bottom bearings are splash lubricated with oil from the tank.

- The Impeller draws Oil forcing the Oil beneath the Piston to give it an upward movement in the cylinder with pressure. The pressure is maintained when the Impellar is in motion.
- During transportation the Oil is drained out from the Thrustor hence at the time of commissioning the system required quantity of Oil needs to be filled up in the Thrustor. It is advisable to use only fresh Grade transformer Oil.
- The quantity of Transformer Oil required to be filled up in the Thrustor depends upon the capacity of the Thrustor.
- In case of 18 Kg Thruster 1.85 liters Oil is required.
- Recommended grade of Transformer Oil is BS 148 or equivalent.
